Culture Quest was a music appreciation programme for around 60 people overall with complex mental health needs who meet weekly and then later fortnightly to listen to music together, an experience of ‘active listening’ where people chose music for their own and other people’s enjoyment and heard it played on good quality equipment.
Culture Quest ran in Norwich for seven years from 2015 – 2022, with most session held in Norwich Arts Centre. It ran for 2 years in Bury St Edmunds at the Hunter Club, before it was handed over to Noise solution.
Initially funded via the Restoration Trust, in 2019 Culture quest set up as an independent community group managed by its members. The group was coordinated by musician and mental health worker Dave Pullin.
The music selection ranged across the whole spectrum and people listened without judgement.
“It’s really really good there cos it’s just like – it doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, what problems you have – that doesn’t matter – when you’re in there – you’re in there for the music.”
